The Awards Office of the LUX Style Awards announced the Entertainment Nominations for the 8th LUX Style Awards in Karachi this week. This includes nominations in the fifteen Film, Television and Music categories.
In a departure from the norm, the Film Categories have three nominations each rather than Film of the Year and Actor/Actress of the Year as the Film Jury felt that the standards had improved sufficiently.
The TV nominations were a surprise as major entertainment channels like Geo and Indus had no nominations as their submitted serials fell outside the parameters laid down for the TV categories. Nominated serials are expected to run for a specific length of time during the Awards year – in this case 2008 – and be of a certain specified duration. ARY, Hum TV and TV One scooped the nominations in the 4 satellite TV categories. PTV and ATV shared the terrestrial nominations.
The TV jury also took the decision to introduce a combined Satellite and Terrestrial category of the Best Screenplay/Writer. This will be in effect from next year i.e 9th LUX Style Awards in 2010. At that time the two Best Director’s categories (Satellite and Terrestrial) will also be merged as these two are Jury choices and do not involve the Viewers as voters.
In the music category the Music Jury eliminated the Best Live Act category as there had hardly been any concerts during 2008. In its place came the Music Director/Producer category to honour those musicians who worked on other vocalists albums as director/producer in the age old tradition of sub continental music. In its first year the Best Music Director/Producer category has three nominations and the final winner will be decided by the Music Jury. Best Music Album, Best Music Video Director and Song of the Year will all be Viewer’s Choice votes.
The annual LUX Style Awards for excellence in Cinema, TV, Music and Fashion is an event held by Unilever Pakistan to honour talent in the field of Entertainment and Fashion. Voting for the categories will begin in April and continue through May till June. Voters can vote digitally, via SMS on 5892 from their cell phones or by logging onto the LSA website at luxstyleawards.com.
